Concordia-Chicago teacher education programs earn national recognition

River Forest, IL (June 6, 2018) – The education programs at Concordia University Chicago (CUC) have been awarded the coveted Educator Preparation accreditation by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). The awarding of the prestigious CAEP accreditation continues Concordia University Chicago’s tradition of excellence in educator preparation since 1864, when it was founded as Addison Teachers Seminary.

CAEP met on April 30, 2018 and granted the accreditation, with CAEP President Dr. Christopher Koch writing, “Congratulations on your accreditation achievement. I appreciate your commitment to excellence in educator preparation.”

Dr. Kristi Stricker, associate dean of the College of Education, led the accreditation work, and Dr. John Schwartz, coordinator of assessment and accreditation, supported in data preparation. “I greatly appreciate all who assisted behind the scenes and led this thorough review of our licensure programs,” said Dr. O. John Zillman, senior vice president for academics at CUC. “This is truly an accomplishment in which the Concordia-Chicago community can take great pride.”

CAEP (formerly NCATE) reviews are typically conducted every seven to 10 years. The University’s education programs received their first recognition by CAEP in 1962, and the colleges in which these programs are housed have received continual accreditation since that time.
