Dr. Rebecca Hornberger selected as executive director of OAESA/SAIL for Education

It is with great pleasure that we announce Dr. Rebecca E. Hornberger has been selected as the next executive director of the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators (OAESA) and SAIL for Education. Dr. Hornberger will step into her new role as head of both nonprofit organizations on January 1, 2022.

Dr. Hornberger is a lifelong Ohio educator, earning her bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in Elementary Education in 1997. She served in the Pickerington Local School District for more than 19 years, where she taught fifth grade and served as a principal in a PreK-4 building. She completed her master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Ashland University in 1999 and became a National Board Certified Teacher in 2009. She furthered her education by earning PreK-12 Ohio principal licensure in 2013 from Concordia University Chicago (CUC) and her PhD in Educational Leadership in 2016, also from CUC.

Since 2016, Dr. Hornberger has served as chair of the OAESA-CUC partnership and, as part of that role, has served as an associate professor and assistant dean of the College of Education at CUC. During that time, she also served as a facilitator at OAESA, working in collaboration with executive leadership, the OAESA and SAIL boards, and the OAESA team to successfully enhance association operations, including facilitating the work of the Communications and Professional Learning service teams.

“I view my work in the field of education as a calling. As such, I have remained open to new opportunities where my leadership skills and knowledge base can best serve Ohio’s educators and students,” Hornberger said. “As executive director, I am excited to work alongside our members and educational stakeholders to promote our vision of an effective, empowered, and passionate administrator leading every school throughout the state of Ohio.”

Dr. Hornberger becomes just the fifth executive director for OAESA as she replaces Dr. Julie Davis, who is retiring after 14 years of service to the Association.
