Opportunity to serve on the Bias Review Committee

The Ohio State Board of Education, in partnership with the Evaluation Systems group of Pearson, is seeking to recruit a diverse pool of educators to become part of the Bias Review Committee (BRC). The BRC is a standing committee within the Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAE) program and reviews test materials to help ensure that they are fair to all candidates and reflect the diversity of the Ohio population.

Why Educator’s Involvement is Important
The Ohio State Board of Education is committed to the recruitment and retention of a diverse educator workforce; along those lines, the inclusion of a diverse group of voices and perspectives on the OAE test development committees is crucial.  In addition, review of test materials for potential bias is an important step in developing valid licensure steps.

Role of the Bias Review Committee
Educators review, revise, and approve test materials to help ensure that the content of the materials is free from potential bias and reflects the diversity of the Ohio population.
The next Bias Review Meeting will take place in April 2024 with more meetings to occur throughout 2024.  Committee members are not required to attend every meeting that is scheduled.

Benefits of Participation Include:
  • Receive substitute reimbursement for your school;
  • Make a difference in Ohio teacher development and performance;
  • Have the opportunity for professional growth and collaboration with educators in your field.

As an educator, you are invited to complete an application for consideration on the BRC.
