Learn More About Ohio’s Introduction to the Science of Reading Courses

The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce will be holding additional facilitator trainings later this year for Ohio’s Introduction to the Science of Reading Courses. Facilitators of these courses will be trained to lead debrief discussions and sessions for educators that support reflection and application of new learning.

If interested in learning more about these facilitator trainings, including the opportunity for qualified leaders within your district to apply and participate, please complete this brief survey by Wednesday October 9, 2024. Additional follow-up information will be shared with you directly from the Department in mid-October.

Kids Voting Ohio -- Bring a Mock Election to Your School

Give your students the chance to put civics into practice this fall with the Kids Voting Ohio Mock Elections. This easy-to-use system is free to educators and gives students in grades 3-12 a chance to learn the importance of voting as well civic involvement in an engaging and fun way.

Participating in KVO mock elections is simple and requires little to no extra work for teachers. KVO staff customize all the ballots, create voter IDs for students, provide curriculum and information necessary for mock election prep, and provide participating schools with “Future Ohio Voter” stickers. Youth Well Being Summit: Resiliency

The Appalachian Children's Coalition is hosting our third all day Youth Well Being Summit: Resiliency on October19th at Stuart's Opera House in Nelsonville. I'm reaching out to you today to see if you could share this exciting information with your members.  CEUs are available and our events are free! Our all-day summits include keynote speakers, breakout sessions, student presentations and the opportunity to meet and talk with other professionals.

Ohio School Safety Center Administrator Survey

The Ohio School Safety Center has developed a survey for school building administrators. We want to learn more about how the OSSC can support Ohio’s schools and gain information to support our ongoing initiatives and services. You can take our survey here.

Please complete our survey by October 10th, 2024. This survey should take around 5 minutes to complete. Responses are considered security records under Ohio Revised Code 149.433 and will be confidential. Only aggregate results will be shared publicly.

Planning for Family Reunification Before, During, and After an Emergency Train-the-Educator (TtE)

The Planning for Family Reunification Before, During, and After an Emergency Train-the-Educator (TtE) Virtual Training provides an overview about family reunification and how it is used to reunite children with verified and authorized family members after a critical and often highly stressful incident (e.g., a fire, a natural disaster, a school bus accident, a situation involving weapons or violence at school, etc.) that prevents a normal school dismissal.

Participants will be equipped to review and update their Family Reunification Annex on a regular basis to ensure the most successful outcome, while applying training principles for including a step-by-step plan to reunify children with their families before, during, and after an emergency across the five mission areas.
