Executive Director

Becky Hornberger, PhD

Becky is a lifelong Ohio educator, earning her bachelor’s degree from Ohio University in Elementary Education in 1997. She served in the Pickerington Local School District for more than 19 years, where she taught fifth grade and served as a principal in a PreK-4 building. She completed her master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Ashland University in 1999 and became a National Board Certified Teacher in 2009. She furthered her education by earning PreK-12 Ohio principal licensure in 2013 from Concordia University Chicago (CUC) and her PhD in Educational Leadership in 2016, also from CUC.

Becky has served as chair of the OAESA-CUC partnership since 2016, and, as part of that role, has served as an associate professor and assistant dean of the College of Education at CUC. During that time, Becky also served as a facilitator at OAESA, working in collaboration with executive leadership, the OAESA and SAIL boards, and the OAESA team to successfully enhance association operations, including facilitating the work of the Communications and Professional Learning service teams.

Becky began serving as OAESA/SAIL Executive Director in January 2022. She is a connector and a team-builder who believes in working collaboratively to positively impact the educational landscape by providing sound, dependable, and visionary leadership that brings stakeholders together to accomplish goals. She is committed to advancing OAESA’s mission to intentionally connect members throughout the state, effectively develop their leadership skills through innovative learning opportunities, and passionately advocate for administrators and public education at the state and national levels.W

On a personal note, Becky resides in Delaware, Ohio with her husband, Mike Hornberger, and their three children.

Associate Executive Director

Mark Jones

Mark Jones joined the staff at OAESA on July 1, 2013, as the associate executive director. Prior to this, Mark first served on the OAESA Board of Directors as the middle school representative for two years. Then he joined the executive board for two years as president-elect and president of the association. He completed thirty-three years in education before joining the OAESA staff, all of which were with the Pickerington Local School District in Fairfield County. He began his career as a junior high science teacher for fourteen years, then served as an assistant middle school principal (six years), middle school principal (eleven years), and elementary principal (two years) in Pickerington. Mark is also the proud grandpa to two grandchildren.

Director of Operations and Finance

Nancy Abrams

Nancy Abrams joined the OAESA team in October of 2011. She is responsible for maintaining all financial transactions in the accounting system, including payables, receivables, and budget analysis. Nancy also assists with membership, professional development, the trade show, corporate partnership, and other projects as needed. She resides in Heath with her husband and children.

Director of Professional Learning

Melissa Butsko

Melissa began working for OAESA in the fall of 2006. Over the years, she has served in many roles. She is currently the Director of Professional Learning for the OAESA Concordia partnership and professional development.

Melissa is a graduate of Ohio University and resides in Grove City with her husband, Rick, and their five beautiful children.

Director of Communications

Patty Cooper

 

Patty joined the team at OAESA in February 2020 as the Executive Administrative Specialist. She provides all communication to OAESA members including weekly emails, the podcast and develops marketing materials.

Patty earned her MEd. at The Ohio State University in 2003 and brings over 15 years experience as an educator in Central Ohio. She
 lives in Worthington with her husband and three teenage sons.

Director of Publications

Mary Mitton-Sanchez

Mary joined OAESA in 2018 to serve as Editor of the Principal Navigator magazine and Multimedia Specialist to better help tell OAESA’s story. A graduate of Miami University and Kent State University, she brings 10 years of experience as a Certified Journalism Educator (CJE) and English teacher at Big Walnut High School. She advised the student newspaper and yearbook for nearly a decade. Mary resides in Westerville with her husband, son, daughters and their two cockapoos.
